The Avian Assistance Council is a group of attorneys and other interested pigeon persons who assist pigeon fanciers faced with an unwarranted intrusion into their hobby.
The AAC's activities have been primarily funded
by the American Racing Pigeon Union, however membership in the AU is not
required in order to secure assistance. The AAC stands ready to assist all
fanciers, whether members of the AU, the International Racing Pigeon Federation
(IF), the National Pigeon Association, or any other organization.
Since its formation, the AAC has directly assisted many fanciers throughout
the country. It has also prepared and distributed booklets designed to help
fanciers avoid, and deal with legal problems arising from the keeping of
their birds. These include a booklet entitled Pigeon Breeders Home Buying
Guide, "must reading" for any fancier who plans to acquire
a residence, which provides a "road map" for securing passage
of a favorable state pigeon statute and Model Pigeon Ordinance for Cities
and Towns, which provides instructions and a model ordinance for adoption
by cities or towns which can be used locally by pigeon fanciers. Each of
these booklets is available from the ACC coordinators listed below.
If you want more information about the AAC, or need legal assistance concerning
your birds, contact the AAC Coordinator:
If someone has a question, needs information or has found a race bird, the AU and IF offices may be able to locate the owner. You need to know the bird's band number, for example, AU 91 LCL 0713, or IF 87 RICHMOND 1481. "AU" or "IF" refers to the national organization that the bird is registered with. The "91" or "87" refers to the bird's year of birth. "LCL" or "RICHMOND" refers to the club the bird is registered with. "0713" or "1481" is the bird's individual unique registration number.
